In Northern Alabama, they take their BBQ seriously! There are 2 basic kinds of BBQ sauces in the area. They have the everyday ordinary tomato-based BBQ sauce. But they also have an Alabama White BBQ sauce, which is a mayonnaise-based finishing sauce. It is a thin tangy sauce that I just LOVE on grilled chicken tenders!
What ingredients go into this Alabama White BBQ Sauce?
The ingredients are ones I keep on hand all the time! HERE is some information about different condiments and how to find clean ones.
- mayonnaise, any brand
- distilled white vinegar or apple juice
- maple syrup (or any sweetener)
- prepared horseradish
- fresh lemon juice
- salt
- ground black pepper
- garlic powder
- cayenne pepper (optional)
Depending on how tart I want my sauce that day I use either lemon juice for extra tartness or apple juice for a little extra sweetness. Try it both ways and decide which one you like best!
To me, the most important ingredient among them all is the horseradish. I love the Boar’s Head brand. It only has 3 ingredients of horseradish, vinegar, and salt. It is so tangy with just the right bite!
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl or small jar ahead of time. I like to make it in the morning to use it in the afternoon or even better, the next day.
Measure it into your Orange Portion Fix container and count it as such.
How do you use this sauce?
The original way to use this sauce is to take your chicken straight off the grill and into a large bowl of this Alabama White BBQ Sauce.
Often I just put my grilled chicken in a bowl and then give it all a good stir.
Then I use a good rubber spatula and scrape all the excess sauce onto the chicken on my plate!
The other way I use it is to just pour some across the chicken and use the rest to dip the chicken in.
Either way, I make sure to use every drop of this sauce. You can use it on grilled pork chops too!!

Mac and cheese is always a great pairing with chicken tenders to me. Maybe a Broccoli Mac and Cheese like this one. Recipe HERE.
When I serve this sauce on chicken or pork I often pair some kind of starch with it. Like these Garlic Smashed Potatoes. Recipe HERE.
