Burgers are probably my favorite food of all time. I eat them at least once a week. Big Macs (recipe HERE), mushroom swiss… you name the burger, I probably like it. Recently, I made a batch of caramelized onions and served some on a burger. I also love mayonnaise on my burgers. I really fell in love with that taste of the 2 mixed together. After I played with some ingredients and invented a French Onion Sauce. It brings some juicy YUM to burger night… and MORE!
What ingredients go into this French Onion Sauce?
First of all, you have to start with the right onion! A good sweet onion is what you need. A Walla-Walla, Big Texas Sweet, or Georgia Vidalia are all a good choice.
I like to make a big batch of caramelized onions when I do them. I portion them out in snack-sized bags and can pull out some for a quick meal add-in.
A few teaspoons of olive oil and some patience are needed to make a pretty golden brown batch of onions. I want my onions to be diced and often just grab my kitchen shears and chop them up after cooking them.
I use vegan mayonnaise because of an egg allergy, but any mayonnaise will be ok to use. A little Worchester sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper finish out the ingredient list.
Mix it all thoroughly and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour. I measure this sauce 2 ways, one way is to just fill my orange container and count it as my orange container OR I measure it in my orange and count 3 oil teaspoons only. So it just depends on what container count I need to use that day.
