Cuban Sandwich Sliders {Portion Fix/21 Day Fix}

June 1, 2020 by Grandnanny 1 Comment

Cuban Sandwich Sliders {21 Day Fix}

I love a good Cuban Sandwich, a hot-pressed ham and cheese sandwich with pickles and mustard giving it some zing!  And I love a good slider, “a little sandwich with a lot of flavor” is what I call them. So I decided Cuban Sandwich Sliders were going to have to become into existence!!

I have done a few slider recipe posts/ideas here on my blog.  The French Onion Sliders are a real hit with my fans.

And I love my little Spicy Buffalo Meatballs on buns with some blue cheese dressing on them.

What ingredients do you need for Cuban Sandwich Sliders?

Buns, swiss cheese, ham, roasted pork, pickles, butter, spices, and mustards.

I prep everything ahead so I can just build a pan full at once.

First of all, let’s review what buns you can use for them. I use whole wheat hot dog buns cut into 1/3’s. I use the Walmart store brand because 1 bun = 1 Yellow container and that gives me 3 sliders and so that is my serving size. If I wanted to use 2 Yellow containers and have 6 sliders I sure could!!

The meats and cheese I use

You have to shop a little bit to find a package of deli-style ham that has no nitrate/no nitrites added to it. I like this Hormel brand for its taste in these sliders and I can always find it at Walmart. Fold 1 slice into small squares (1/4’s) that will fit on one of the little slider buns.

I prefer the thin sliced swiss cheese for these sliders. 5 1/2 thin slices = 1B container. I fold one slice into 1/4’s and use 2 squares per slider or 6 little squares or 1/3 of a Blue container per 3 sliders. You could use thick sliced cheese or double the thin ones if you wanted to but you would have to count more of a blue container per serving then.

Authentic Cuban Sandwiches are made with roasted pork. I try to time making these sliders when I have a pork roast and use the leftovers. We have not had a pork roast recently but I did have a BIG pork chop so I just used the leftovers I had from it. If you don’t have any pork handy it is not a deal-breaker, just use a little more ham if you want. I just diced this into small cubes and just sprinkled them across all of the sandwiches at once.

The last couple of ingredients are hamburger dill pickle slices and yellow mustard. Pickles are a Green container, but I am only going to use 6 slices per serving so I will just count them in with my other Green containers for the day. A butter and Dijon mustard slurry to brush the tops of the buns before you slide them in the oven.

What are the steps to building the Cuban Sandwich Sliders?

step to build cuban sandwich sliders

I spray the pan I am going to use with a little olive oil spray.

Place the bottom of the buns into rows in the pan, keeping them close together.

Give them a big squirt of yellow mustard.

Next place a square of cheese on each bun. Then a square of ham on the cheese.

This is where I just sprinkled the pork pieces across the ham. If I had pulled pork, I would do it the same way just spreading it across all the buns equally.

Place 2 pickle slices on each sandwich.

Put the second square of cheese on top of the pickles and another big squirt of yellow mustard.

Put the top bun on each slider.

Brush the tops of the buns with a slurry of 2 teaspoons of melted butter and 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard and spices.

Cover the pan with aluminum foil. I use a pan with a lid that fits. Bake them at 350 degrees for 25 minutes covered and then uncover them and bake for another 10 minutes.

I am going to give this recipe in the amount in my pictures, 2 servings. You can make as many as you want but the cooking instructions stay the same.

The container counts are for 3 sliders are 1Y,  1/3B, 3/4R, 1 teaspoon butter.

I love to make sliders for parties/tailgates. If you do too then you might want to add some more “approved”  party foods to your list!

Try this ranch dip, that counts as a Red container, with a veggie tray.

Or some spicy garlicky marinated shrimp and tomatoes.
